    Support Conservation & Community Projects in Coastal Thailand

    Location: Trang, Thailand | Start Date: ASAP |  Duration: 1-year (with possibility of extension)

    At GVI Trang, you'll be at the heart of one of our newest and most exciting hubs—where coastal conservation meets community development, and where your creativity and drive will help shape something truly meaningful.

    WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

    As our Program Officer, you'll support the smooth daily running of projects, working closely with the Program Manager to ensure logistics, safety, and participant engagement are all delivered to the highest standard.

    You'll also help shape the growth of our hub—contributing to new project development and community relationships while guiding volunteers in their day-to-day work. It's a dynamic, field-based role that balances operations, people management, and meaningful fieldwork.

    WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

    • Coordinating and supporting volunteers in daily project activities
    • Assisting with planning and field logistics across community and conservation projects
    • Supporting new project development in response to local needs
    • Acting as a positive role model and mentor to participants
    • Assisting with hub operations as needed, including admin and reporting
    • Helping ensure safety protocols and quality standards are consistently followed

    WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

    • Experience working in conservation or community development
    • Strong coordination and organisational skills
    • Ability to live and work in remote or cross-cultural environments
    • Past volunteer or volunteer coordination work experience
    • Comfort with logistics, planning, and group facilitation
    • First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain it)
    • Enthusiasm, resilience, cultural sensitivity, and a collaborative mindset
    • Ability to live and work in Thailand 
    • Knowledge and understanding of the Thai language and Thai culture

    Bonus if you also have:

    • Health and safety management experience (certified or trained preferred)
    • Experience living or working in Thailand or Southeast Asia

    • Hotel dorm room with aircon & ensuite bathrooms
    • 3 daily buffet-style meals during the week (Thai dishes & local snacks)

    Conditions & Expectations

    • Trang is tropical - expect heat, humidity, and rain
    • You'll be leading a fast-paced, diverse hub - balancing fieldwork, admin, and people management
    • Respectful cultural engagement is key to long-term relationships
    • Modest dress is required when engaging with the local community

    Project Areas

    • Conservation: Mangrove & seagrass surveys, habitat mapping, CBEMR, biodiversity research
    • Community: Teaching English (adults and children), delivering workshops, supporting early childhood development

    Cultural Notes

    • Thailand is known as the 'land of smiles', with locals known to be friendly to foreigners.
    • Always remove your shoes before entering homes or temples
