My client a leading agri commodities trading conglomerate is looking for a senior agronomist, in this role you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic role integrated into a global research team.

Job Purpose

The Sugar Agronomist / Data Analyst is responsible for forecasting sugar production, gathering market intelligence, and analyzing Thailand's sugar market trends. The role involves developing a strong network among sugar producers and market participants to provide fundamental data and insights that support the commercial strategy for sugar trading.

Key Responsibilities

1. Crop Assessment & Market Intelligence

• Develop a deep understanding of the sugar market, focusing on supply and demand dynamics, agronomic factors, pricing trends, key market players, and competitive crops.
• Provide timely recommendations on market opportunities and challenges to inform business strategies in the region.

2. Data Collection & Field Crop Tours

• Conduct field visits and collect real-time data from key stakeholders, including farmers, sugar mills, government agencies, and sugar industry associations.
• Travel extensively within Thailand (and overseas if required) for market research and crop assessments.

3. Crop Updates & Report Writing

• Provide regular updates to the commercial team on crop conditions, market trends, export/import flows, and pricing developments.
• Assist regional analysts with demand analysis, Thailand sugar tenders, and trade flow reports.

4. Database Management & Data Analysis

• Develop and manage comprehensive data models for efficient supply and demand analysis.
• Support regional analysts with structured and data-driven market insights.

5. Weather & Secondary Factor Analysis

• Monitor and analyze weather patterns and competing crops to assess potential risks to the sugar crop in advance.
• Utilize advanced modeling techniques to evaluate external factors influencing sugar production.

6. Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with industry stakeholders, including traders, sugar mills, agricultural associations, research institutes, and government bodies.

7. Team Collaboration & Global Coordination

• Work closely with the global research and commercial teams to align strategies based on market insights.
• Deliver weekly presentations in English to the global team, providing updates on Thailands sugar market.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Language Skills

• Degree:
  B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Agronomy, Agriculture, or a related field.
• Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and Thai.

Experience

• 1 to years of experience in agricultural research, crop analysis, or market intelligence.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills; experience with analytical software is an advantage.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with key industry stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
