Career Area:

Accounting**:

To independently perform staff level accounting functions that deal with accounting issues to support business processes and provide further experience with Caterpillar accounting practices.

JOB DUTIES:
From the outset, the Staff Accountant I will be expected to perform accounting work that supports business processes

Additionally, this position will:
- develop an expanded understanding of Caterpillar's business and accounting practices, systems and procedures;

The incumbent will be exposed to a variety of accounting functions and will perform a high level of compilation with a broad range of analysis work.

The Staff Accountant I will review and validate relevant data and data sources, analyze information and provide feedback. Incumbent makes decisions and recommendations as appropriate. Work will be directed by an accounting supervisor primarily through review of progress and results.

Possible areas of responsibility are varied, including:

internal management accounting;

- estimating various forecast and budget scenarios as needed based on changing business conditions;
- financial accounting including preparation of journal entries, financial statements, variance analysis, and account reconciliations;
- development and maintenance of internal controls, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control documentation.

Possible areas of support include:

Accountable Reporting
Cost Accounting / Decision Support

Interacts with multiple functional areas and levels of authority.

The Staff Accountant I is capable of handling complex accounting issues such as:

- reconciliation between forecasts and actual to provide insights to assist in decision making
- interpretation of results
- current product cost monitoring
- inventory valuation

BACKGROUND/

EXPERIENCE:
In the U.S., position requires a 4-year degree, preferably in accounting. Non-accounting degree requires minimum 18 hours of college level accounting or approved Accounting certification. Outside the U.S., international equivalent of education and/or certification are typically required. All approved certifications can be found on Finance Services Division Accounting Certification website. Must demonstrate strong leadership, initiative, inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. 1-2 years of accounting experience is required.

Additional Information:

This position would ideally be located in Minerbio, Italy; however open to considering other Caterpillar facilities;
The position requires a willingness to travel up to 15%20%, mainly to Italy.
