Working environment

Baan Dek Foundation (BDF) is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization based in Bangkok & Chiang Mai. BDF supports access to essential services for more than 1,500 vulnerable children and their families living in construction sites and slums. Through specifically tailored educational programs and flexible individual support, Baan Dek Foundation protects endangered children, enables families to become self-sustainable and provides opportunities for a better future.

Your Mission

Responsibilities of the Advertised Internship 

Community empowerment program

• Support in facilitating the development of training modules for peer educators and beneficiaries in communities.

• Provide field support and support with activities (accompany CE staff to field activities or co-facilitate)

• Support the creation of content, VDO clips, and online activities in social media.

• Support program development and implementation to answer community needs by researching content, suggesting activities, contact networks etc.

• Support on data entry for community programs in CE tools & Salesforce.

• Attend meetings/related training to improve the community program

• Support other tasks as planned with the supervisor.

Experience/Skills Preferred:

• Faire English skills, fluency in Thai

• Experience working with children and community

• Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint/experience using professional emailing/calendar system

• Facilitating activities

• Experience with non-profit organizations

• Understanding of child protection policy/safeguarding

Soft Skills Necessary:

• Dynamic, creative, and demonstrates proven skills to work and engage with children and community.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multicultural team.

• Ability to use initiative, keep overall goals in mind, leading where necessary to solve problems

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

• Ability to provide/give constructive feedback.

• Reliable and respectful of local cultures.

About Baan Dek Foundation

Baan Dek Foundation is a dynamic non-profit dedicated to empowering marginalized children and families living in urban poverty, particularly in construction camps across Thailand. 

The Thai construction sector employs approximately 700,000 migrants out of which 40% are women. BDF and UNICEF's evidence-based study states around 60,000 children live with parents in construction site camps with slum-like conditions. These children and their parents face critical challenges in accessing essential services such as education, healthcare and child protection.

To address this challenge, BDF supports children and their parent's immediate needs (access to healthcare, education, and child protection services), empowers their communities through a peer-to-peer approach (training for youth, adults, and women) and creates systemic change in the Thai construction sector through the Building Social Impact Initiative.

Baan Dek also powers a spin-off social enterprise: Dao Ethical Gifts, which empowers vulnerable women in Thailand.
