Role OverviewWe are seeking a Expansion Operation Lead to support new market launches and improve operational effectiveness across Southeast Asia. This role focuses on execution, cross-functional coordination, and building scalable processes in a fast-growing business environment.
- New Market Launch Execution
Lead end-to-end setup of new country operations:
Entity incorporation and compliance coordination
Bank account and payment system setup
Hiring and onboarding of initial local team
Warehouse / 3PL partner onboarding
Marketplace store setup (TikTok, Shopee, etc.)
Launch timeline planning and progress tracking
Maintain a strong focus on speed, practicality, and cost efficiency.
- Operations Coordination
Order fulfillment and logistics flow
Inventory alignment with HQ planning teams
Customer service processes
Returns and after-sales handling
Marketplace readiness for campaigns and promotions
Act quickly to resolve operational issues and remove execution bottlenecks.
- Build Simple Systems & SOPs
Develop scalable but practical operating foundations:
Weekly dashboards and performance KPIs
Operating playbooks for country teams
Process documentation and standardization
Clear communication cadence between HQ and local markets
Focus on simplicity and usability. Avoid over-engineering
- Financial & Performance Monitoring
Track and monitor core performance indicators:
GMV and sales performance
Contribution margin
Inventory levels and turnover
Fulfillment cost
Burn rate vs budget
Work closely with the finance team to ensure cost discipline and performance visibility.
- Local Team Management
Recruit and onboard country team members
Set clear KPIs and expectations
Coach execution discipline and ownership
Foster accountability and performance culture
- Founder Support & Regional Improvement
Act as an execution partner to the founder:
Provide clear weekly updates on priorities and progress
Escalate risks early with proposed solutions
Recommend practical improvements
Reduce founder involvement in day-to-day operations over time
In addition to new market launches, this role will also support strengthening operational effectiveness across existing markets (Thailand and Taiwan), including:
Identifying operational bottlenecks and improvement opportunities
Supporting standardization of processes, reporting, and KPIs across markets
Improving coordination between marketing, supply chain, and operations teams
Helping build scalable operating playbooks to support regional expansion
The focus is on system improvement and scalability, not day-to-day operational management of existing country teams.
Experience
5 to 10 years of experience in operations, marketplace, e-commerce, startup, or other high-growth business environments
Experience working in regional or multi-city environments preferred, especially within marketplace, platform, e-commerce, or other high-growth business settings
Experience launching new initiatives, markets, or business units from early stages strongly preferred
Proven hands-on execution experience managing cross-functional projects from planning through implementation
Exposure to commercial or operational metrics (e.g. growth targets, unit economics, operational KPIs) is an advantage
Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with evolving processes and limited resources
Travel Requirements
High Mobility Required:
This position requires frequent domestic and international travel (up to 50-70% during peak launch phases) to support new market entries and audit existing operations.
On-the-Ground Execution: You must be willing and able to travel on short notice to resolve operational bottlenecks or oversee the setup of local warehouses and offices across Southeast Asia.
